Real 3D Logo and signs

As you might already know the L-Tek cosntruction team in Second Life recently scrapped the whole Rearden SIM and redesigned it. Which isn't really interesting in itself however what is interesting is that they used 2 new & unseen methodologies of creation.

Now one of them is the way they created all the buildings which is not the subject of this blog and I will leave it to discuss in a future one. The second was the creation of real 3D logos and sign. What I mean by the word "real" is that the the logo or the sign is not a texture but a series of very small and large objects that are put together. Check out the sign on the left. It consists of 270 objects. Not for everyones cup of tea because you need to have lots of prims to go for something like this. However if you do it will make your logo or sign noticeable. Ideal for a business that doesn't want to look like the rest.

In doing this L-Tek uses a special 3D technique. With this technique they are able to create any logo and any text in any font with this technique. The whole design, including the building of the logo or text in 3D is done in real life and then it is uploaded into Second Life. The structure is auto built with zero manual intervention. After that obviously only the colouring and the texturing (if any) of the objects are done in Second Life. So as you can imagine the whole process is labour intensive and requires a lot of skill.

The logo above is the L-Tek sign in front of the L-Tek Headquarter building in Rearden. So if you ever end up in Rearden make sure you check it out.
